German illustrator Werner Kruse (pen name ROBINSON) first published this extraordinary collection of pen and ink drawings of New York City in 1967.
Depicting the city’s skyscrapers and neighbourhoods in breathtaking detail, ROBINSON - who compares his drawings to x-rays which show the city and its buildings inside and out - visited the Big Apple in the early 1960s before documenting his trip with the same meticulous detail that he used for similar books about Paris, Tokyo and Berlin.
Reissued in 2009 by Universe Publishing, the collection New York: Line by Line, From Broadway to the Battery is a stunning compendium of pen and ink images that are truly uncanny in terms of their attention to detail and ability to capture the city that never sleeps.
